People seeking things to do in Paris could opt for a trip to the National Navy Museum to learn about France's maritime heritage.

The Musee National de la Marine tells the long and mysterious history of the French Navy through stunning works of art, as well as a number of ships.

Visitors can get up close to a number of the impressive vessels of the past, including frigates, steamers, battleships and liners.

What's more, these collections are held in the Palais de Chaillot, which is widely considered to be one of the most stunning Parisian monuments of the thirties.

The collection stretches back from today to the 17th century, and one highlight of the collection is a series of 13 images of French ports by Vernet as well as a barge that was commissioned for Napoleon.
